The Clippers will reportedly meet with Kevin Durant in The Hamptons on Friday afternoon.
What will be their message?
Doc Rivers and owner Steve Ballmer will pitch Durant on forming a "Big Four" in Los Angeles, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne and Arash Markazi.
As The Vertical's Bobby Marks explained earlier this week:
"Even if the Clippers renounced and traded every player on their roster outside of Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan, Los Angeles would still be short of Durant’s $26 million max salary. Los Angeles would have $22 million in cap space but would need to fill the remaining roster slots with minimums."
Kevin Durant would have to take a contract below the max, and then the Clippers would need to fill out the remaining roster spots with minimum contracts.
The Clippers are hoping that Paul, Griffin and Jordan travel to The Hamptons to be a part of the recruitment process.
On Wednesday, The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Clippers are restructuring their front office by promoting assistant coach Lawrence Frank to executive VP of basketball operations.
The Clippers are hopeful Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan will be at their meeting with Kevin Durant on Friday. That's the plan.— Arash Markazi (@ArashMarkazi) June 30, 2016
The one big hiccup in that plan is Chris Paul is on a family vacation and may not be able to make it. The Clippers want all three there.— Arash Markazi (@ArashMarkazi) June 30, 2016
Clippers' pitch to Kevin Durant is building a Big 4. They are not discussing trading Chris, Blake or DeAndre with them in the room. #Awkward— Arash Markazi (@ArashMarkazi) June 30, 2016
