SAN JOSE – The Sharks will convene one final time on Wednesday at their practice facility after failing to make the playoffs for the first time since 2002-03.
It’s likely that general manager Doug Wilson and head coach Todd McLellan will address McLellan’s future with the club at that time.
When asked via text to comment on McLellan’s status moving forward, Wilson replied to CSNCalifornia.com: “We can talk Wednesday.”
The timing of the final media availability of the season is a bit later than normal, as most clubs – including the Sharks last season – hold it within two days of the conclusion of the season. The Sharks played their final game on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles.
The date of Wednesday’s final gathering could have to do with McLellan wanting to take some time with his family and decide whether he wants to serve out the final year of his contract with the Sharks. The head coach said on Saturday that his family would all be together “for the first time on Tuesday” in a long time.
“Our coaching staff will come under review, but I have to do my own personal review, too,” McLellan said after Saturday’s finale.
Of course, Wilson’s future is also a bit hazy, as the Sharks have missed the playoffs for the first time under his watch following a tumultuous offseason and public feud in March with former captain Joe Thornton.
