PHILADELPHIA – Sharks defenseman Mirco Mueller will be out of action indefinitely after blocking a shot in Detroit on Thursday night.
Mueller’s left hand/wrist area was significantly wrapped on Friday, as the Sharks prepare to face the Flyers on Saturday afternoon at Wells Fargo Center.
Todd McLellan said: “He injured himself last night in Detroit. Didn’t return to the game. We finished the night with five [defensemen], and he’ll be out for a little while.”
Will he miss the rest of the season?
“I don’t know that time frame,” McLellan said. "It will be awhile. He won’t play again on this trip, and then we’ll see when we get home."
Mueller, who has one goal, four points and a -8 rating in 41 games, missed the last 14 minutes of Thursday’s game after blocking a Temmu Pulkkinen shot in the third period of San Jose’s 6-4 win.
The Sharks’ seven-game road trip concludes on Sunday night in Pittsburgh.
Matt Irwin will return to the lineup on the blue line, after he was a healthy scratch against the Red Wings.
In goal, Alex Stalock will make his first start since March 2 when he shut out the Canadiens, 4-0.
