Are the Sharks actively looking for a new coach?
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.ca, Sharks general manager Doug Wilson “reached out to Dan Bylsma,” citing "a couple of contacts." Wilson strongly denied that, telling Friedman: “Tell whoever you want to tell that’s not true.”
Bylsma, 44, was fired by Pittsburgh at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season. He coached the Penguins to a Stanley Cup championship in 2009, taking over in the middle of the season. He has a career record of 252-117-32 over six seasons as a head coach, with a 43-35 mark in the postseason.
The Sharks are 10-9-4 (24 points), in fifth place in the Pacific Division. They have lost six of their last eight games (2-4-2), fueling speculation that Todd McLellan’s job is in jeopardy.
McLellan, 47, is in his seventh season as Sharks head coach, with a 281-139-61 record and 30-32 mark in the playoffs.
