Raiders-Chargers kickoff moved to Sunday night

ALAMEDA – Sunday’s game between the Raiders and San Diego Chargers has been postponed from day to night.

A kickoff delayed until 8:35 p.m. was required due to an Oakland Coliseum conflict between tenants. The Oakland Athletics will play Game 2 of the American League Division Series at 6:07 p.m. on Saturday night, and the conversion from ballpark to football stadium would take too long to play the AFC West game as originally scheduled.

The game will be broadcast nationally on NFL Network. A local television affiliate is expected to pick up the game as well.

The Raiders made the announcement shortly after Major League Baseball released start times for this weekend’s postseason games.

Speaking before the announcement was made, Raiders coach Dennis Allen said a delayed kickoff wouldn’t impact his team’s preparation.

“As far as the weekly routine and how we go about things, not a whole lot will change,” Allen said. “If we change anything, it will be something we do later in the week. We’ll see.”
