Raiders owner Mark Davis brought legendary Raiders coach John Madden with him to interview Mike Shanahan a few days ago.
That was the first time Madden sat in on an interview during this search for a head coach. It won’t be the last.
CSN reporter Fallon Smith, citing a NFL source, says that Madden is expected to sit in on an interview with interim head coach Tony Sparano. NFL sources have now confirmed that the interview will occur Wednesday afternoon.
Madden sat in on an interview with then-prospective general manager Reggie McKenzie in 2012. McKenzie was eventually hired for the position that he retains today.
While McKenzie wasn’t in on the Shanahan interview that Madden was present for, he’ll obviously be involved in speaking with Sparano.
Sparano has long been considered among the favorites to be Raiders head coach in 2014, though others, including Denver defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, are being seriously considered.
