LOS ANGELES – The Giants entered Dodger Stadium prepared to fight with their backs against the wall. Prior to batting practice, though, they were turning on each other.
Multiple sources confirmed that right-hander Sergio Romo and coach Shawon Dunston exchanged heated words with raised voices, causing Bruce Bochy to emerge from his office to intervene. The air was cleared – as was the clubhouse – but Romo stretched with teammates a few minutes later and remained available to pitch in Monday night’s series opener, sources said.
Bochy praised Romo as recently as Friday in San Diego, saying the right-hander was being unselfish and handling his demotion to setup duties well. The nature of the friction couldn’t be immediately ascertained.
