The Astros are in "serious discussions" with Giants free agent starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong, according to a FOXSports.com report.
Vogelsong, 37, is coming off an 8-13 season with the Giants in which he posted a 4.00 ERA and struck out 151 batters to 58 walks.
After a career detout to Japan and four years away from Major League Baseball, Vogelsong returned to the Giants in 2011 and turned in his first career All-Star season.
Over the past four years since returning to MLB, Vogelsong has a 39-35 record to go along with a 3.74 ERA and two World Series titles.
The Giants have their 2015 starting rotation in place with Madison Bumgarner, Matt Cain, Jake Peavy, Tim Hudson and Tim Lincecum -- with long man Yusmeiro Petit. But recent ankle surgery for Hudson and questions about the rotation's back-end endurance are giving the Giants reason to continue seeking arms.
