Last Saturday, Kaiser Carlile -- a nine-year old bat boy for the Liberal Bee Jays -- was hit in the head by a batter taking a practice swing in the on-deck circle.
On Monday, the Giants purchased the contract of Kelby Tomlinson and added him to the active roster.
Later that night, he delivered a pinch-hit single in his first career big-league at-bat.
Following the game, Tomlinson paid tribute to Carlile in a video posted to Facebook by Tyler Prater of Liberal, Kansas.
"This is Kelby Tomlinson here. Man has it been a crazy couple of days but in the mix of all of our excitement, we remember Kaiser and the entire Carlile family. And from one Bee Jay to another -- players, coaches and especially Kaiser -- this one's for you."
The Bee Jays were playing in Wichita as part of the National Baseball Congress World Series.
Tomlinson, whom the Giants selected in the 12th round of the 2011 draft, helped lead the amateur Bee Jays to the 2010 National Baseball Congress World Series title.
