The San Francisco Giants have made the following transactions prior to Friday’s game against the Padres:
Matt Cain was reinstated off the 15-day DL, while outfielder Gregor Blanco has been diagnosed with a concussion and is listed as day-to-day. The Giants also recalled outfielder Jarrett Parker from Triple-A Sacramento.
Cain missed 14 games with right elbow nerve irritation. He appeared in two rehab games for Triple-A Sacramento and tossed four scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing three hits.
The veteran has made one appearance out of the bullpen in his major league career while throwing two perfect innings of relief on May 16, 2006 at Houston.
Cain also missed 79 games earlier this season with a right forearm flexor strain.
Blanco was batting .303 (27-for-89) with 19 runs, seven extra-base hits and six RBI in his last 26 games. He has started 78 games for the Giants this season (34 in center field, 25 in left field and 19 in right field).
Parker, 26, appeared in four games for the Giants from June 13-16 and went 1-for-9 (.111) at the plate.
He batted .283 with 74 runs scored, 25 doubles, 23 home runs and 74 RBI in 124 games with Triple-A Sacramento this season.
His 23 home runs were tied for the fifth most in the Pacific Coast League.
Parker had his contract purchased from Double-A Richmond last season on Aug. 1 as the Giants were in New York and joined the team for their series against the Mets and dressed for one game before being optioned on Aug. 2.
