The San Francisco Giants have made the following transactions prior to Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks:
RHP Cory Gearrin (#62) contract purchased from triple-A Sacramento and added to the Major League roster.
C Hector Sanchez transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
RHP Jeremy Affeldt (#41) reinstated off the 15-day disabled list.
Gearrin, 29, spent the entire season with triple-A Sacramento, going 2-2 with a 2.72 ERA (13er, 43.0ip) in 33 relief appearances, striking out 46 batters in 43.0 innings while allowing an opponent’s batting average against of .230. He missed the first month of the season while recovering from Tommy John surgery he had in 2014. Gearrin held PCL right-handed batters to a .151 clip with just five extra base hits allowed. He made his big league debut with the Braves in 2011 and owns a 3-3 record with a 4.28 ERA (33er, 69.1ip) in 77 relief appearances over three seasons with the Atlanta Braves from 2011-2013.
Sanchez left Saturday's game at Colorado after trying to beat out a sacrifice bunt in the 4th inning and was diagnosed with a left ankle sprain, left hamstring strain and left mid-foot sprain, all the result of him crossing first base wrong. He batted .179 (10-for-56) with a homer and five RBI over three seperate stints with the Giants and started 11 games at catcher.
Affeldt missed the Giants' last 14 games with left knee subluxation after he twisted his left knee while playing with his three sons in Loon Lake, near their home in Spokane, Wash. on a Giants off day on Aug. 24.
