The Giants placed Hector Sanchez on the seven-day concussion disabled list and purchased catching prospect Andrew Susac's contract from Triple-A Fresno, the team announced on Saturday.
Susac, 24, is hitting .268/.379/.451 with 10 home runs with the Grizzlies this year and immediately becomes the backup to Buster Posey as the only other catcher on the Giants 25- and 40-man rosters.
Sanchez, also 24, suffered a mild concussion when he was struck in the facemask by a foul tip.

“He’s out for a little while,” manager Bruce Bochy said of Sanchez, who stayed in the game and struck out in the bottom of the inning before exiting the 8-1 loss to the Dodgers to start the fourth.
His nickname is “iman,” the Spanish word for magnet, because of all the shots he takes behind the plate -– particularly when he’s catching Tim Lincecum. Bochy made Sanchez and Lincecum a regular pairing in part to save Posey, the team’s best hitter, the wear and tear.
Aside from Susac, the Giants' could have called on Guillemo Quiroz, who has nine years of major league experience, but less of an offensive upside.
Quiroz, 32, is hitting .267/.306/.360 with one home run this year in Triple-A.
