SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Giants made their first roster cuts of the spring on Thursday, reassigning 12 players to minor league camp and optioning first baseman Angel Villalona to Triple-A Fresno.
Right-hander Kyle Crick, the organization’s top prospect, headed a group that will move down the street to the Giants’ minor league complex.
The rest of the list: RHP Clayton Blackburn, LHP Ty Blach, RHP Chris Heston, RHP Jose Casilla, RHP Rafael Dolis, RHP Sandy Rosario, IF Joe Panik, OF Mac Williamson, C Jeff Arnold, C Ben Turner and OF Javier Herrera.
Rosario entered camp with an outside shot at a big league job but has been set back by unexplained weakness in his legs. The Giants sent him to a specialist in an effort to pinpoint the issue.
The Giants have 54 players remaining in big league camp, including 15 non-roster invitees.
