SAN DIEGO -- The Giants had just three healthy players on their bench at the start of Saturday's game. The latest injury may force them to rethink the roster.
Third baseman Casey McGehee went for an MRI on his left knee after coming out in the top of the first inning. Manager Bruce Bochy said the initial diagnosis was a sprained left knee, but it "is hard to tell" if the injury is serious.
"I don't want to say anything until we get the results," Bochy said. "He seemed to be doing better when I checked on him, but we'll wait and see what the doc says.”

Dr. Ken Akizuki, the team orthopedist, was in San Diego with the Giants and was looking at McGehee. The injury was a strange one, and more similar to the non-contact injuries you see in basketball or football. McGehee flied out to center to end the top of the first and crumpled just a few feet away from the plate. He was immediately taken out of the game and Joaquin Arias took his place at third.
Bochy said he would meet with Brian Sabean and Bobby Evans late Saturday night to discuss the roster. With McGehee now hurt and Brandon Belt dealing with a groin strain, Hector Sanchez and Justin Maxwell were the only healthy players on the bench by the second inning Saturday. The Giants don't have a day off until April 20 and can't afford to go much longer with a short bench.
"We'll see what we think our needs are right now," Bochy said.
