MESA, Ariz. –- The A’s marketing team provided the media its annual sneak preview of the team’s 2015 commercials.
A couple of the clips are available now at Athletics.com (go to the Video section and click on the “A’s commercials” link). Pretty entertaining stuff judging from the clips we saw.
Among the highlights this year:
**A returning storyline from the 2014 crop, with Sean Doolittle giving coaches a social media seminar and Mike Aldrete wondering about taking a “selfer.”
**Billy “Country Breakfast” Butler trying to get his teammates to adopt their own breakfast-themed nicknames.
**Stephen Vogt reprising his role as an NBA referee.
“Stephen Vogt is unbelievable,” said DJ O’Neil, CEO of Hub Strategy & Communication, the creative driving force behind the team’s commercials for the past several years.
This year’s surprise as far as acting ability apparently was low-key reliever Dan Otero.
“Otero –- who knew?” O’Neil said.
It’s worth checking out the online clips. The “Green Collar Baseball” ad campaign has won honors each of the past five years at the National Sports Forum ADchievement Awards.
