Stephen Vogt left Sunday's game vs. the Mariners in the eighth inning when he was catching and a foul tip hit him in the groin area.
Vogt started the game at first base for the A's and moved behind the dish in the bottom of the eighth inning. Mariners shortstop Ketel Marte tipped a ball on a 3-1 count that nailed Vogt and had him rolling in pain.
Marte was the first batter that Vogt sat behind the plate on.
Carson Blair replaced Vogt to make his major league debut.
The severity of Vogt's injury is not yet known. A's manager Bob Melvin did say that Vogt went to the hospital to be evaluated through several tests.
Melvin also acknowledged that Vogt will miss a couple days at the very least, but it "could be a little while" until he is back in the A's lineup.
