An MRI on Coco Crisp's strained right lower triceps revealed no structural damage, Bob Melvin told reporters in Arizona on Tuesday afternoon. He expects the A's left fielder to miss a few games.

A's outfielder Coco Crisp will have an MRI on his strained right lower triceps after X-rays on the injury proved to be inconclusive, the team told reporters in Arizona on Tuesday.

Crisp left Sunday's Cactus League game against the White Sox complaining of elbow soreness.

After the game, A's manager Bob Melvin told reporters that "it could be a couple days” before they know the extent of Crisp's injury.

Last week, the A's announced that they were moving Crisp from center field to left field in an effort to take wear and tear off the 35-year-old. Sunday's game was Crisp's third game in left field.

“He’s been taking fly balls in left and we’ll see how it goes,” Melvin said last Wednesday. “In center field you have to deal with the wall more. There’s a little more diving involved. Every ball that’s hit, you’re moving. We think we have a chance to maybe take a little off him as far as the physicality of it.”

Crisp told reporters last Wednesday that he does not buy into the theory that playing left will help him avoid injury.

“I feel like I’m going to go out and play the same way I always have, so it doesn’t really matter if I play center or left or anywhere else” he said. “… I tried to play it safe last year and hated doing that. I had to try to think in the bigger picture in not diving for some of those balls. I came back in and it felt like I was letting my teammates down.”
