The Oakland A’s claimed outfielder Alex Hassan off waivers from the Boston Red Sox, the club announced Monday.
Hassan made his Major League debut with Boston in 2014 and went 1 for 8 (.125) with a walk in three games over two stints. He spent the balance of the season with Triple-A Pawtucket where he batted .287 with eight home runs and 55 RBI in 114 games. The 26-year-old right-handed hitter added 60 walks for a .378 on-base percentage and his 31 doubles fueled a .426 slugging percentage.
Hassan was originally selected by Boston in the 20th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft and is a .291 career hitter in 538 games over six seasons in the minors.
