Right tackle Anthony Davis has stated his intention of attempting a comeback with the 49ers next season. But coach Jim Tomsula said that’s a topic to address after the 49ers are finished with the season.
Tomsula on Thursday said he has not had any contact with Davis, who remains under contract to the 49ers after being placed on the reserve/retired list after announcing his plan in June to step away from the NFL for “a year or so.”
“I just keep up with the guys that are here,” Tomsula said. “We’re in-season, and I keep up with the guys that are here. And 100 percent of what I have is with the guys that are here.
“That’s an offseason discussion.”

Davis, 26, is a five-year NFL veteran. He announced he was stepping away from football to allow his body and brain a chance to heal. A first-round pick in the 2010 draft, Davis made just seven starts last season. He battled shoulder, hamstring and knee injuries through the middle of the season. He sustained a concussion against the New York Giants and missed the following four games as he continued to experience post-concussion symptoms.
