OWINGS MILLS, Md. -– Multiple teams are interested in pursuing a trade for holdout 49ers guard Alex Boone, a source on Saturday confirmed to CSNBayArea.com.
It is not known if those teams have yet reached out to the 49ers to open trade talks.
The source could not reveal the teams that have shown interest.
“It’s definitely multiple teams that are interested in him,” the source said.
Third-year player Joe Looney started at right guard for the 49ers in place of Boone in the exhibition opener Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens. Coach Jim Harbaugh said Looney played with a high pad level “on a few plays.”
“It was good work and things that are fixable -– things that are correctable,” Harbaugh said. “Look forward to getting that done between our first game and our second game.”
When asked if he is assuming Boone will not be back any time soon, Harbaugh answered, “No, not assuming anything.”
ESPN first reported that more than one team is interested in trading for Boone, who does not plan on reporting to play for the 49ers without a new contract.
The 49ers have taken the stance that they will not negotiate new contracts until a player reports to camp.
