The 49ers are in need of inside linebackers after Patrick Willis and Chris Borland retired this offseason, and they're entertaining one option on Monday.
Former Miami Dolphins linebacker Philip Wheeler is visiting the San Francisco franchise, according to an NFL.com report.
Wheeler, 30, signed a five-year, $26 million contract with the Dolphins in 2013, but was cut after making just four starts in 2014.
Prior to signing with Miami, Wheeler started all 16 games for the Oakland Raiders in 2012, recording 78 tackles, three sacks, six passes defended, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
The seven-year veteran has played in 108 NFL games, starting 60 since he was selected by the Colts in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft.
