Hoping to get more depth at the linebacker position, the 49ers are scheduled to meet with free-agent Lance Briggs on Monday, according to ESPN.com.
The 49ers are looking at Briggs after the organization lost Patrick Willis and Chris Borland, both of whom recently ended their NFL careers.
Briggs, 34, played in eight games last season before being placed on injured reserve with a groin injury.
The 12-year veteran has 1,177 tackles, 16 interceptions, 15 sacks and five defensive touchdowns.
Briggs, a seven-time Pro Bowl performer, has been connected with the 49ers in the past. In 2008, the 49ers were penalized a fifth-round draft pick for tampering with Briggs while he was under contract to the Bears.
