This is the first part in a series that spotlights three Rams-49ers matchups to watch Sunday, 1:05 p.m., at Levi’s Stadium.
Rams QB Austin Davis vs. 49ers S Eric Reid
Tale of the tape
Davis (9): 6 foot 2, 221 pounds, second season, Southern Mississippi
Reid (35): 6 foot 1, 213 pounds, second season, LSU
Davis had an impressive opening against the 49ers when the clubs met three weeks ago. Davis completed 11 of 14 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown in the first half. But the 49ers made some adjustments in the second half to hold him to 99 yards while completing just 10 of 28 passes.
Reid does not have an interception since the first game of the season against the Dallas Cowboys when he picked off Tony Romo. Reid has been solid in coverage after struggling in a Week 3 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Reid should have an opportunity to make some plays because Davis will take some shots down the field. After facing Davis once, Reid and the 49ers defense has a better idea what to expect this time around after finding a formula that worked on Oct. 13 against the Rams.
“I don’t think you get away from what you did well, but understand that they’ll adjust some, just like they’ll adjust some, but it will still be our defense against their offense,” 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said. “They’re not going to change their offense wholesale for us and likewise we wouldn’t change our defense wholesale for them.”
