Brent Jones attended Leland High School in San Jose.
He played collegiately at Santa Clara University.
He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, but played his entire 11-year (1987 to 1997) career with the San Francisco 49ers.
He bleeds red and gold and is very frustrated with the state of the 49ers franchise.
"I've been a little frustrated and I have multiple reasons to be a little frustrated," the former tight end explained on KNBR 680-AM Wednesday morning. "Over the years, I'm gonna always land on the homer side of the equation because I grew up in the Bay Area, because I played for the hometown team, because I have people I know in the organization. But there's a part of me that has to, Howard Cosell, 'tell it like it is.'
"The other reason I'm frustrated is because I paid a bundle for my PSLs (Personal Seat Licenses) and my season tickets. My daughters and my wife convinced me that we had to be a part of this new stadium. And I am reluctant, being a former pro athlete -- we don't pay for anything when it comes to your former team -- you don't pay more than you made your first year for PSLs and season tickets...
"... So yeah, I'm mad that I got convinced by my huge 49er-fan family to spend money. There's something that goes against the grain when you have to go back to your former team, pay a bundle for PSLs, pay a bundle for season tickets. And I know you're gonna ask me, 'Did you get a discount?' I didn't get squat."
Over his career, Jones caught 417 passes for 5,195 yards and 33 touchdowns.
He was a member of three Super Bowl winning teams and was a Pro Bowler four straight years (1992-95)
Last week, Jones was critical of both Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers for their handling of the quarterback's recent injury situation.
But he did have some nice things to say about Levi's Stadium on Wednesday.
"I know a lot of people complain about the stadium -- I think the stadium came out great," Jones declared. "I think it's a great venue. Yeah, there's been days where it's hot. But the biggest problem with the stadium is we haven't put a very good product on the field since it's been open. That's the number one thing...
"What a huge sucker I am. I'm on the sunny side. I'm just like everybody else -- I've watched half the games inside the Levi's Club ... Usually, I'm pretty tough when it comes to the game but its (the sun) just beating on you. If I'm locked in, I'm not moving from the sun. I don't care what happens. But the problem is there hasn't been enough performance to have you lock in for most of these games."
