SANTA CLARA -- Running back Carlos Hyde and tight end Garrett Celek will not travel to Chicago on Friday for the 49ers’ game Sunday against the Chicago Bears, coach Jim Tomsula said.
But center Daniel Kilgore, who is not yet on the team’s 53-man roster, will make the trip. Tomsula intimated Kilgore will be activated off the team’s physically-unable-to-perform list on Saturday.
“Yeah, your Saturday afternoon will get screwed up,” Tomsula quipped to reporters.
Hyde will miss his fourth game with a stress fracture in his right foot. Celek is out indefinitely with a high ankle sprain. Either of those players could be placed on injured reserve to create a roster spot for Kilgore.
Wide receiver DeAndre Smelter, who is on the non-football injury list from an ACL tear sustained in November of last year, will not travel with the team to Chicago, either.
