SANTA CLARA – Colin Kaepernick attempted a total of just 23 passes during the 49ers’ four exhibition games last summer.
He can be expected to have a light workload during the run-up to the 2014 season, too.
Coach Jim Harbaugh said on Monday he has a plan in place for Kaepernick’s playing time Thursday against the Baltimore Ravens in the exhibition opener for both teams. Harbaugh intimated Kaepernick could see no more than a dozen snaps behind center in the 49ers’ first game.
“I have a good idea,” Harbaugh said of Kaepernick’s playing time. “Colin will (play) a couple drives at the most. (He) could have one drive. (If) it goes really well, (I could) say, ‘That’s it right there.’ (He) could have two drives. (It) won’t be much more than that.”
Reserve quarterbacks Blaine Gabbert, Josh Johnson and McLeod Bethel-Thompson are expected to see action in each of the 49ers’ exhibition games, too.
