SANTA CLARA – San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith is expected to meet face-to-face with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in New York before a decision is reached on any potential league-imposed discipline.
No date has been set for the meeting, a source told CSNBayArea.com. The 49ers have day offs scheduled for Monday, July 28 and Saturday, Aug. 2. The 49ers will be on the East Coast from Aug. 5 to Aug. 11 for an exhibition game and four practices with the Baltimore Ravens.
Smith was sentenced last week to 12 days on a work crew after his “no contest” plea on DUI charges stemming from a September arrest. He was previously arrested for DUI in Miami in 2012, but the charge was reduced to reckless driving. A judge last week also reduced three felony counts of possessing illegal assault rifles to misdemeanors.

Goodell previously stated Smith’s decision to miss five games while voluntarily entering into treatment for substance abuse would be factored into any potential discipline under the league's policies on substance abuse and/or personal conduct.
A decision on Smith’s discipline is expected before the opening of the regular season.
