The 49ers could ask for a second interview with Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, but no meeting has been scheduled.
Agent Tony Agnone, who represents Bowles, told CSNBayArea.com on Sunday morning he has no direct knowledge of the 49ers’ plan to bring his client back for a second meeting. Bowles interviewed with 49ers CEO Jed York, general manager Trent Baalke and president Paraag Marathe on Friday in Santa Clara.
The 49ers plan to bring Bowles back for a second interview, CBS Sports reported.
Bowles, 51, recently completed his second season with the Cardinals. His defense ranked fifth-best in the NFL in points allowed per game. He has some history with the 49ers. During an eight-year NFL playing career, he played 16 games for the 49ers as a free safety in 1991.
Bowles reportedly had a five-hour interview on Saturday with the Atlanta Falcons. He also interviewed for the Chicago Bears’ head-coaching job on Thursday.
The only 49ers coaching candidate who is off the market is Rex Ryan, who interviewed for the job last Sunday. Ryan accepted a five-year contract with the Buffalo on Sunday.
San Francisco offensive coordinator Greg Roman is scheduled to meet with the Bills and Ryan in Florida on Sunday. He is in line to become Ryan’s offensive coordinator. It is uncertain whether any 49ers offensive assistants will join Roman in Buffalo.
