SANTA CLARA -- 49ers left guard Mike Iupati has passed the NFL's concussion protocol and has been cleared to play in Sunday's game vs. St. Louis, he said Wednesday.
Iupati sustained a concussion Oct. 13 against the St. Louis Rams and was not cleared to play the following game against the Denver Broncos.
Iupati participated in pregame warmups in Denver, a sign that he had been cleared for non-contact work.
Iupati also was required to pass a contact test as the final part of the NFL's protocol to be allowed to return to action.
Iupati is expected to return to the starting lineup Sunday against the Rams.
Joe Looney started at left guard in Iupati's absence.
