49ers linebacker Chris Borland was named the NFL's Rookie of the Week after his performance in the win over the New Orleans Saints at the Superdome.
In the absence of All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis, he racked up 17 total tackles (11 solo, six assists), and recovered a fumble in overtime to set up the game-winning field goal.
Borland was competing for the honor in a group of five players, including Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant (4-143-1), Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham (7-108-0), Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans (7-125-1) and Eagles wide receiver Jordan Matthews (7-138-2).
Borland was the only defensive player to be nominated, and two of the players he was pitted against were top-15 draft picks in 2014.
He has accrued 50 tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery and two passes deflected in spot duty as a rookie.
