SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers on Wednesday placed running back Shaun Draughn on injured reserve with a knee injury and claimed tight end Je’Ron Hamm off waivers.
Washington waived Hamm on Tuesday. Hamm appeared in one game while being on Washington's 53-man roster for more than a month. He originally signed with New Orleans as an undrafted rookie in 2014 from Louisiana-Monroe, where he appeared in 46 games and caught 111 passes for 1,587 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Hamm joins tight ends Vance McDonald, Blake Bell and Brian Leonhardt on the 49ers' 53-man roster. Tight ends Garrett Celek, a scheduled unrestricted free agent, and rookie Busta Anderson are on injured reserve.
Draughn started six games for the 49ers after signing with the team on Nov. 2. He ranks second on the 49ers with 263 rushing yards and a touchdown. He also caught 25 passes for 175 yards.
Draughn sustained a knee injury, which will not require surgery, in the 49ers’ Dec. 20 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
