Editor's note: This article is part of a continuing series in which Insider Monte Poole highlights a different Warriors player every day leading up to the 2014-15 season opener on Oct. 29
Stephen Curry/Guard
Age: 26
Salary: $10.63 million
Contract status: Curry enters the second season of four-year, $44 million contract extension signed in October 2012. His salary escalates to $11.37 million next season and to $12.11 million the following season. He can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2017.
2013-14 in review: Curry led all Western Conference guards in votes for the All-Star Game, becoming the first Warrior to start since Latrell Sprewell in 1995. He averaged career highs in points (24.0) and assists (8.5). Curry led the league in made 3-pointers for the second consecutive season with 261 and also led the league with 10 games in which he scored at least 30 points and was credited with at least 10 assists. Despite a relatively high turnover rate, Curry ascended from a player known mostly for his long-distance shooting to become a member of the league's elite.
2014-15 outlook: Indications are the Warriors will retain the same starting five, and nobody should benefit more from that – as well as the new motion-oriented offense – than the league's foremost scoring point guard. Curry's goals are simple: stay healthy and reduce turnovers. One national website recently identified Curry's contract as the best value in the NBA. Considering what he has done and where he could be headed, it's tough to mount an argument.
