The Warriors missed out on Stan Van Gundy when he joined the Detoit Pistons, and they almost lost Steve Kerr to the Knicks. But Golden State got its man thanks to Phil Jackson's alleged stingy negotiations.
Jackson originally offered Kerr a three-year contract worth $13.2 million, according to a New York Post report, which also indicates that Kerr signed with the Warriors for five years and $22 million.

The report indicates that the Knicks initial offer was on the table for a week before the Warriors got involved on Tuesday night, when team brass flew to Oklahoma City to negotiate with Kerr, who was broadcasting the Thunder-Clippers series.
The average annual salary for each offer is $4.4 million, but two additional years from the Warriors sweetened the West Coast deal for Kerr, who has never coached in the NBA.
