OAKLAND -– Klay Thompson continued his torrid shooting, scoring 40 points Sunday night to lift the Warriors to a 117-105 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Two nights after scoring 40 points in a win over Dallas, Thompson matched that total to lead the Warriors to their 53rd consecutive win at Oracle Arena. They are 35-0 at home this season.
Three other Warriors scored in double figures, as Steph Curry dropped in 18 points, Marreese Speights 17 and Draymond Green 13. Green added 11 rebounds and 10 assists to post his 12th triple-double this season.
The Warriors, at 66-7, remain one game ahead of the pace set by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, whose 72-10 record stands as the best in NBA history.
The Warriors dominated the glass, with a 44-37 rebounding advantage, and shot 53 percent from the field. Philadelphia shots 56.5 percent in the first quarter but was held to 43.3 percent over the final three.
Point guard Ish Smith led Philadelphia scorers with 20 points, as the 76ers (9-65) lost for the ninth consecutive game.
Thompson and Speights share the honors for essentially double-teaming the 76ers.
Thompson’s line: 40 points (15-of-27 shooting, including 7-of-14 from beyond the arc), two rebounds and a blocked shot. Thompson played 38 minutes and finished plus-13 for the game.
Speights’ line: 17 points (7-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-3 from 3-point distance), seven rebounds and three assists. He played 20 minutes and was plus-four for the game.
After a free throw by 76ers guard Isaiah Canaan tied the score 40-40 with 9:37 remaining in the second quarter, the Warriors responded with a 12-0 rally, taking a 52-40 lead with 6:47 left in the quarter.
The Warriors during that stretch made all five of their field goals, while holding the Sixers to 0-of-6 shooting with a turnover.
The Warriors led by 16 (71-55) at the half and Philly got no closer than 11 in the second half.
Warriors: G Shaun Livingston (rest), F Kevon Looney (R hip soreness), F Andre Iguodala (L ankle sprain) and C Festus Ezeli (L knee surgery) were listed as out.
76ers: F Richaun Holmes (R Achilles strain), F Nerlens Noel (R knee contusion), C Joel Embiid (R foot injury) and C Jahlil Okafor (R knee injury) are listed as out. F Christian Wood was signed Sunday morning and G/F Sonny Weems was waived.
The Warriors return to action Tuesday night, when they play host to the Washington Wizards. Tipoff at Oracle Arena is scheduled for 7:40.
