OAKLAND – Warriors fans at Oracle Arena don't need much provocation to flex their vocal muscle, especially during the postseason.
But Memphis Grizzlies small forward Tony Allen incited them on Sunday and his ears likely will be ringing every time he touches the ball in Oakland.
As both teams were coming out of a timeout in the second quarter, the Junior Jam Dance squad was on the floor still in mid-routine. Allen made the mistake of walking through the dancers who, to their credit, continued to swing to the sounds of MC Hammer.
“I didn’t even notice. I just heard the first horn and I went out there. I thought they knew to run off the court. But that’s the least of my worries.”
The crowd let him have it, booing Allen immediately – even before the action resumed.
“It really don’t matter to me. I ain’t focused on none of that, I’m focused on playing basketball.”
They continued to rain down jeers upon the small forward for the remainder of the game.
"I don't think he realized he was walking through their dance routine," Warriors forward Draymond Green said. "And all of a sudden, he realizes it and then he tried to dap the little kids up, and the fans did not pay any attention."
That's because it was too late for Allen. He's now on a Wanted Poster in Oakland, where nobody messes with the kiddies.
