OAKLAND – Warriors coach Steve Kerr never offers a hint of a lineup change, and he didn’t Sunday before Game 7 of the NBA Finals. He simply made the surprise move.
Festus Ezeli into the starting lineup, and Andre Iguodala out.
Ezeli will start at center, with Draymond Green, who started Game 6 at center, moving back to power forward. Igoudala, who started Game 6 at small forward (Harrison Barnes was at power forward), goes to the bench.
Why make the move? The idea is that Ezeli’s bigger body can better combat the size and aggressiveness of Cleveland center Tristan Thompson, whose rebounding has hurt the Warriors throughout the series.
Ezeli started only 13 games in the regular season, and had yet to start in the NBA Finals.
Iguodala, who is battling back spasms, will come off the bench in Game 7. He spent the regular season as the team’s Sixth Man.
