OAKLAND – Shortly after going through his usual pregame warmup and draining a 50-foot jumper from the tunnel leading to the Warriors locker room, Stephen Curry turned and lowered his frame and made his usual 40-yard sprint.
It was a success. That apparently was all Curry and the Warriors needed to see. The reigning MVP will start Monday night against the Charlotte Hornets.
Curry, who left in the second quarter Saturday after aggravating a shin contusion that caused him to miss the two previous games, did not do much in the team’s morning shootaround and was listed as questionable on the injury report.
He clearly wanted to play against his hometown team, as he grew up watching his father, Dell, playing for the club. Dell Curry now works as a color analyst for Hornets games.
It also may not be by coincidence that Curry averages 27 points a game against the Hornets, his second-highest scoring average against any team.
