OAKLAND –- Andrew Bogut didn't want to reveal any more of his personal secrets, the little things he does to augment his game on the court.
He was, however, willing to offer his opinion on why the Warriors are 58-13 and having, so far, the best regular season in franchise history.
He credits widespread selflessness and says it's such a simple formula, that most any team in the NBA can follow it. Almost.
"You do have to have the right guys; in the NBA, having the right guys helps," Bogut explained after practice Thursday. "Having high-IQ guys helps. But having guys that want to buy in is the key."
"Most teams in the NBA can do it. It's a matter of does your superstar player want to catch the ball at the top and swing it quickly to get a wide-open shot? Or does he want to catch it and dribble it 15 times and shoot a fadeaway because he's the man on the team?"
The Warriors have had it down to a science. They lead the league in assists. They have two former All-Stars, Andre Iguodala and David Lee, both longtime starters making in excess of $12 million this season, coming off the bench.
What the Warriors have not had is anyone going public or whispering loudly in private about touches or minutes. This has to be tougher on Lee than anyone, as he often doesn't play at all.
And yet, Lee bites his lip and continues to go along on what has been the best ride of his 10-year career.
Such submergence of ego has not gone unnoticed.
"There are a lot of teams that can do it," Bogut said. "It all comes down to guys giving up their individual stats for the betterment of the team. We have a lot of guys that are veterans that have been on losing teams that understand that."
And why won't Bogut, who leads the NBA in defensive efficiency, give up his personal secrets? Because the last time he did so, it resulted in a national story that he feels led to an uptick in the attention from officials.
