UPDATE: The Warriors announced Festus Ezeli has returned and will start vs. the Blazers in Bogut's place.
OAKLAND – Starting center Andrew Bogut, who on Friday night took a blow to his lower rib cage, will not play Sunday when the Warriors face the Portland Trail Blazers at Oracle Arena.
There was at least a chance that loss could offset, though, as coach Steve Kerr left open the possibility that backup center Festus Ezeli, who has missed the last 31 games, could return.
Ezeli, who eight weeks ago underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, was upgraded to doubtful Saturday. He looked good while going through a pregame workout Sunday, advancing to “questionable,” with Kerr indicating Ezeli would be a game-time decision.
Bogut’s absence was mostly precautionary, according to Kerr, citing that this gives him an opportunity to rest while healing.
“Andrew’s a little banged up, so we’ll sit him,” the coach said. “He should be fine for Tuesday.”
The Warriors on Tuesday night face the Minnesota Timberwolves at Oracle Arena.
