OAKLAND -– Another game, another scary head hit suffered by a key Warriors guard.
Early in the fourth quarter of the Warriors’ series-clinching win against Houston on Wednesday, the Rockets’ Trevor Ariza inadvertently kneed Thompson in the head. He did not return with what the team called an ear laceration.
Ariza gave his perspective of the play.
“He’s a good shooter, so you don’t want to give up any open threes,” Ariza said. “I was just trying to run to contest it, and just so happened he kind of leaned forward and my knee hit him in the face.”
After the vicious contact, Thompson was slow to get up off of the court, but eventually made it to the locker room under his own power.
Thompson finished the night with 20 points on 8-of-14 from the field, including four 3-pointers.
Ariza was also involved in Stephen Curry’s injury in Game 4, when the Warriors guard toppled over the Houston forward and slammed into the floor headfirst.
