The Sharks are expected to make roster cuts on Wednesday. There are 49 players currently in camp, not including the injured Raffi Torres and James Sheppard.
McLellan said: “For myself, for real selfish reasons I want to get it down to a real workable number fast. I think that the quicker you can do that, you spend time with players you’re likely going to see throughout the season and you get more done.
“Yet, some young players need a little bit longer. They need more time to show what they can or can’t do. We do have a number of young guys we’re looking at, so we may have to be a little more patient than we have been in the past.”
