For the second straight season, the San Jose Sharks own the 20th overall selection in the NHL Entry Draft, which will take place in less than two weeks at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center on June 27-28.
Last year, the Sharks traded the 20th overall selection and one of their two second round picks to the Detroit Red Wings in order to move up two spots and select defenseman Mirco Mueller 18th overall.
The Sharks have chosen just one player 20th overall, selecting Marcel Goc in the first round in 2001. Along with Mueller, some other players taken around that spot include Tomas Hertl in 2012 (17th overall), Lukas Kaspar in 2004 (22nd overall), Scott Hannan in 1997 (23rd overall), Marco Sturm in 1996 (21st overall), and Ray Whitney in 1991 (23rd overall).

Currently, the Sharks currently have seven selections in the 2014 draft, including their own first round pick and two second round selections. They own the Pittsburgh Penguins’ second rounder as part of the trade for defenseman Douglas Murray just prior to the 2013 trade deadline.
The Sharks possess their third round pick, but traded their fourth rounder to Edmonton on Oct. 21, 2013 in exchange for forward Mike Brown. They have one fifth rounder, the Rangers’ pick as part of the trade for Ryane Clowe on April 2, 2013.
San Jose has two choices in the sixth round, but none in the seventh and final round, as their 2014 seventh round pick was dealt to Detroit two summers ago for the rights to defenseman Brad Stuart.
