For the fifth time in history, the Sharks and Blues will meet in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. For the first time in history, it will be for the chance to advance to the Stanley Cup Final.
San Jose defeated the Nashville Predators on Thursday night at SAP Center in Game 7 of their second round series, 5-0, advancing to the Western Conference Final for the first time since 2011. The Sharks beat the Kings in the first round in five games.
St. Louis defeated Chicago in the first round in seven games, and knocked off the Stars in Game 7 on Wednesday, 6-1.
Game 1 of the Western Conference Final is in St. Louis on Sunday. The series will continue every other day from there.
The Sharks were 2-1-0 in three games against St. Louis in the regular season, with the road team winning all three. San Jose beat the Blues 3-1 on Feb. 4 at Scottrade Center, and again on Feb. 22, 6-3. St. Louis claimed a 1-0 shutout win at SAP Center on March 22.
All four previous playoff meetings between the Sharks and Blues have been in the first round. The Sharks won in seven games in 2000 and in five games in 2004, while St. Louis downed the Sharks in six games in 2001 and five games in 2012.
The Blues’ last appearance in the Stanley Cup Final was 1970. The Sharks have never advanced past the conference finals in three tries, losing in 2004, 2010 and 2011.
