SAN JOSE — Sharks forward Logan Couture has been fined $5,000 for slew-footing the Red Wings’ Brendan Smith, the NHL department of player safety announced on Friday via Twitter.
The amount is the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement.
Couture was not aware of the fine until after the Sharks' practiced on Friday. When asked about the play, he said: "I have nothing to say about it.”
At 16:03 of the third period of the Sharks’ 3-2 loss on Thursday at SAP Center, Couture and Smith were given coincidental minor penalties. Couture was called for tripping, while Smith went off for hooking.
