The NHL and NHLPA ended their Saturday conference calls designed to explain the league's newest proposal and the two sides are expected to resume CBA talks either late Sunday or on Monday.

The union is currently working on a counteroffer.

Commissioner Gary Bettman has stated he won't host an abbreviated season shorter than 48 games, and Sharks Insider Kevin Kurz estimates that a deal will need to be agreed upon by around Jan. 15 in order to preserve the season.
