ANAHEIM – Tomas Hertl had successful right knee surgery on Tuesday, according to general manager Doug Wilson.
The 20-year-old rookie had damage to his medial collateral ligament and posterior cruciate ligament repaired in his right knee, according to a statement from the team. There was no damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.
Hertl is expected to make a full recovery, according to Wilson. There is still no timetable for his return, and the possibility remains that Hertl could miss the rest of the 2013-14 season.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Anthony Miniaci in Cleveland, OH. Wilson said three doctors were consulted on the injury, which occurred during a game in Los Angeles on Dec. 19 when Hertl collided with Dustin Brown.
Hertl, who still leads all NHL rookies with 25 points, will return to the San Jose area later this week.
