The Rangers were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, but former Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle did not go quietly.
Rangers players met with the media at their practice facility on Tuesday morning and Boyle was not happy about the presence of one reporter, spurring a profanity-laced tirade...
Boyle: “I don’t want him here."
Reporter: “What? You know, the feeling’s mutual, man.”
Boyle: "Perfect. Perfect. I want you out of here. Nobody likes you. Nobody respects you. Just so you know."
Boyle: “At least I’m leaving here with the respect of my teammates. Instead of [expletive] someone like you, who tries to bury somebody. That's all you do. It's not a critique. I'm telling you I don't want you here. I have no respect for you. I want you to get the [expletive] out.”
Reporter: “I don’t care what you think."
Boyle: “I can [expletive] tell you to get the [expletive] out if I want to!”
Reporter: “You can, but I don’t have to listen to you.”
Boyle: “Yeah, ya do! I want him out. And that other [expletive] clown, Brett, or whatever the [expletive] his name is. Where's he at?"
Ranger staff: "We're done, guys. We're done."
Boyle: "Everyone else is fine."
Ranger staff: "No, we're done."
Reporter: "You know if you had asked me politely, I might have."
Boyle: "POLITELY? Why would I be polite with you? Are you kidding me?"
Reporter: "Why don't you grow up."
Boyle: [Laughs] "Grow up! I just want you to leave. That's all."
Reporter: "Well I'll walk over here."
Boyle: "I just want you to leave. I don't want to see you."
Reporter: "I know. We've been through this. I'm not leaving."
Boyle: "Is it not my right?"
Boyle, 39, is an unrestricted free agent and is considering retirement after a 19-year NHL career. He spent six seasons in San Jose from 2008 to 2014, totaling 269 points (68 goals, 201 assists) in 431 games.
