Sharks-Devils coverage gets underway at 3:30 p.m. with Sharks Pregame Live on Comcast SportsNet California
Where they stand
Sharks: 3-0-1, 7 points, 2nd Pacific Division
Devils: 3-1-0, 6 points, 3rd Metropolitan Division
Sharks: The Sharks lost their first game of the season on Tuesday against the Islanders, 4-3 in a shootout at Nassau Coliseum. New York outshot the Sharks for the game, 45-23, but San Jose pocketed a point in the standings thanks to goals from Brent Burns, Patrick Marleau and Tomas Hertl. Alex Stalock made 42 saves, as the Sharks fell to 1-0-1 on a five-game eastern road trip that continues against the Rangers on Sunday.
Devils: New Jersey, which plays its home opener tonight, completed a four-game road trip to start the season with a 6-2 loss in Washington on Tuesday. Rookie defenseman Damon Severson scored both of New Jersey’s goals, while goalie Cory Schneider was pulled after allowing five Capitals goals on 26 shots. The Devils are opening up a three-game homestand.
Keep an eye on…
Sharks: Logan Couture. It’s been a slow start offensively for the Sharks center, who has just one assist through four games despite ample power play time. Couture, who played in his 300th NHL game on Tuesday in Washington, has eight shots on goal and a +1 rating after undergoing offseason hand surgery. He has one goal and one assist in five career games vs. New Jersey.
Devils: Mike Cammalleri. The forward signed with New Jersey as a free agent on July 1, and scored a goal in each of his first three games with the Devils -- just the second player in team history to do so (Doug Gilmour). He registered as assist on Tuesday, extending his point-streak to four games. The 32-year-old has 26 points in 39 career games against the Sharks.

“Winning in this league is never really deceptive. You get two points you’re doing something right. Obviously, I think we have high expectations in this room. Our coaching staff has high expectations. We believe we can play a lot better.” – Logan Couture
