SAN JOSE – Sharks center Logan Couture snapped out of the worst scoring funk of his career with his 100th NHL goal in the first period of a game against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday at SAP Center.
Couture gathered in a chip shot from Brent Burns in the neutral zone, danced around Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin, and beat Frederik Andersen with a breakaway backhander at 10:07 of the first period.
Couture reached the milestone in his 271st career game, all with San Jose. The only player to reach 100 goals in fewer games with the Sharks was Jonathan Cheechoo (246 games).
The goal snapped an 11-game scoring drought for Couture, the longest of his career, and was his second even-strength marker since Nov. 12 at Calgary. The center had just two goals in his last 20 games, including an empty-net goal in Toronto on Dec. 3. He has 11 goals on the season.
"It’s special. It’s a big number," Couture said. "I was stuck on 99 for a while, which kind of sucked. But, it’s definitely special and one I’ll remember."
Since the start of the 2010-11 season, Couture has 95 goals, second only to Patrick Marleau’s 101 with San Jose.
