SAN JOSE –- After being rumored for several months, the NHL is expected to make it official on Thursday that a new AHL Western Division will be established in California starting with the 2015-16 season.
A press conference is scheduled at SAP Center at 12:30 p.m., before the Sharks host the Ducks later Thursday night.

The San Jose Mercury News reported last week that the Sharks’ affiliate would relocate from Worcester to San Jose. Anaheim’s affiliate will reportedly be in San Diego, Calgary’s in Stockton, Los Angeles’s in Ontario, and Edmonton’s in Bakersfield.
Representatives from each of those teams, as well as AHL president Dave Andrews and NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly will be present, as well as “other special guests.”
